Jon Krakauer

Jon Krakauer was an author, but also struggled to climb the world's highest mountain in May 1996. He was born in 1954 and grew up in Corvallis, Oregon. His father introduced him into mountaineering when Jon was eight years old. Christopher McCandless was a 24-year-old man who died of starvation in the Alaskan wilderness in 1992. The story, "Into the Wild" was written by Jon Krakauer to explain the adventure of a true story. Jon also wrote a #1 New York Times best selling novel called "Into Thin Air". In 1999, he recieved an Academy award in Literature from the American Academy of Arts. Jon Krakauer has spent the past four years writing his latest novel, "Under the Banner of Heaven".
